As a surprise, my dear wife framed the signed poster from the Meet & Greet. Looks nice:

This is a review of the Madison show. I haven't seen a performance that great in a long time, though A place to Bury Strangers was pretty unpleasant to sit thru, even with earplugs...

Ritzy said they'll be coming back to Milwaukee this summer. I can't wait!

i cant say enough about this band - we drove from chicago to madison wisconsin and bought the special tickets - were able to be in the sound check and actually on the stage with the band playing - they took pictures and gave us a signed poster - unbelievable experience and the band couldn't have been any cooler - feel blessed to see this band in such an intimate venue and this band is headed on the fast track to arenas once they get more exposure

then they blew the place up- the stage presence of this band and the passion they have for music in undeniable - i have seen hundreds of concerts and this band taken over my #1 spot -

i have seen pearl jam 30 plus and the dave matthews band 40 times and i dont know how to explain the way this band moves me -

cant wait for the new album - we almost drove to bloomington indiana tonight -

anyway they are doing summerfest in milwaukee so another road trip is order

I've been going to shows since 1977, and that Madison show is just below my top 5 of all time. I wouldn't have imagined that just the 3 of them could be so awesome, but I agree it was an honor to see them in that fairly intimate setting- totally worth the hour and a half drive. I was midway up in the balcony (I like to sit if I can), but even then their power and spirit was a sight to behold.

I wish they could stay our "little" secret, but don't see how that's possible. They were kick-@$$ on JKL, too! Letterman should give them a shot when they're in NYC

^^ +1 What everyone said above. Amazing band.

P.S. I enjoyed A Place To Bury Strangers, but concert earplugs are definitely recommended.

Good review, but a cliched title. What next, "The Joy Formidable On Song in North America"?

all these posts about intimate shows yet the places have balconies - what is the average capacity like in us shows, is it much larger than over here?
this is why events unnerve me

I'd guess they're doing shows in venues that accomodate 500- 2000 people. The typical arena here in the US can seat between 7,500 to 19,000 but TJF isn't going to come close to filling those. Intimate is in the eye of the beholder. Balconies don't usually extend back too far, and it means you don't have to stand on the floor and have your view blocked by someone tall (or be continually jostled or have beer spilled on you). I almost got crushed to death at a Damned concert in London 1984, so I'll take my balcony brand of intimate these days.

500 capacity at the Bluebird in Denver, and not much of a balcony.
