So in the march tour thread we had an unlikely breakaway group chatting about marathons, how did you get on if you did London or another spring marathon?

I did 3:08:25 yesterday which isn't a PB but am happy with as ducked under 3:10 target. Then polished the time off with quite a few beers last night!

Yeah well done eggy, thats a proper time! I haven't run properly in years - damaged my foot last year when i started training again so i stopped to recover and never had the motivation for it this year!

Congrats on running it, I went down the road to watch it, but I will hold my hands up and say I didn't run, although PE at school taught me that I have Fast twitch fibres so I shouldn't run long distances... I'm doing Race for life this year though :)

Have you done any other marathons?

Many congrats Eggy - you are a pro with that time (I did 4 hr 31 last year). I've got my entry in the ballot for next year and hopefully my club will get some club entries, so next year I'll crack the 4 hour mark!

Got the Hinckley half marathon week on Sunday, but my training has been poor so far so I'll be happy to duck under 2 hours. I run for Whestone Harriers in the Leicestershire Road Running league and run races around this area regularly, so if anyone is competing in Leicestershire/Warwickshire let me know as I may be in the same race. Also plan to do the Leicester and Kenilworth half marathons this year (October).

Well done Eggy ! That is a fantastic time. You must be very proud of that.
I ran the Brighton Marathon the weekend before London. Got round in 4hr 27min. Couldn't believe how warm it was!
If anybody wants to run a marathon and cannot get in to London then do Brighton. Over 7,500 runners and 80,000 spectators. Mostly flat course so a fast time is possible.
One thing I have learnt is that training and too many gigs do not mix including 4 in one week four weeks before the race!!! Will have to think it through more carefully next year.

Excellent stuff - I know that running in the heat for that length of time makes a big difference to times - a few weeks before London I did the Ashby 20 mile run in 3hr 7min in cool conditions, yet on a hot day a few weeks later on a flater course it took me almosy 90 mins to runs an extra 6 miles.

I hope we all keep this thread live - always good inspiration to hear what others are up to and if I miss out on London next year I'll certainly conisder Brighton - just not sure I could resist a big night out there the night before the race!

Peanut hasn't been in revels for a while now. It was replaced by raisins. I used to avoid revels because I have peanut allergy. They were actually like russian roulette for me. Although, the other flavours were tremendous.

Well done Ramones - when I woke up on that morning I sent a message to my mate saying I hope it cools down a bit for London - it was a hot day indeed! Our training looks like it comes from the same hymn sheet - I filled up my training hours with far too many gigs + beers - still happy enough with my fill and automatic entry for 2011.

Next race for me is St Albans half, the day after England v USA so I shall be trying out the beer as carb method, and also entered into Berlin marathon at the end of September to try and keep me focused.

How did you get on at your half Pontiacb?
I ran for the first time since London yesterday and managed six miles without pain, my plan for the summer is to find a few local 10ks and beat my time of 39.45 - not done much speed work though so jury is out.

I'm a member of St Albans Striders and three or four did Brighton and also recommended it to me.
Only midlands race I will say I am going to do (hopefully) is my home race - the Stafford half (in March 2011).

The Hinckley half is this Sunday - I'm out at the Young Knives the night before so not expecting miracles. Managed 10 miles in 1:26 last Sunday so think I'm looking at 1:55ish if everything goes OK.

Entered the Cov half today, 23rd May. Only problem is that I'm seeing the Damned the night before, so again not great prep. Also entered the Leicester half today on 10th October - £20 though, too much in my book. Sure there will be some mega gig the night before to ruin prep for that as well.

My PB for 10K is 45 min something (would need to check the spreadsheet, its a couple of years since I did it), so if we were ever in the same race I dont think I'd be able to live with you for very long!

Well, Pontiacb & Eggy.....looks like more gigs and races then !!
I've got nothing planned race wise just yet but I'm looking to do a couple of half marathons in the summer in the Sussex area. I used to run for a Brighton based club called Pheonix in the days when Steve Ovett was a member. I don't belong any more, just race for myself and when I feel like it.
Now recovered from the marathon and looking to start getting some miles in during these light evenings however 4 more gigs this month  , The Fall, Airship, Shonen Knife and Alkaline Trio.
Enjoy the Damned pontiacb, excellent stuff !!
Keep this thread going !!

Managed 1:54:50 in the Hinckley half - pretty pleased overall, it was a lot hotter than anticipated, I'm old and hadn't done enough training, so was never going to crack my PB of 1:49:49. Was on for something about 1:51ish until I blew up a bit up a big hill up to 11 miles and walked part way up the hill - my wife claims that's cheating - but managed to get going again and ran the last couple of miles quite well.

So all I've got to do now is drag my weary body off the see The Neat tonight - hope there's some chairs in the venue!
