Well I'm pretty excited. If it's anything near as good as Swoon I can see it being an album of the year for me.

Thoughts? I don't think I much like the more electronic aspects. They've gone a bit more rhythmic, but it's unmistakably them, and Simmer, Busy Bees, Bloody Mary and Gun-Shy are definitely already classics in my book.

When I listened to it the first time I was like "oh fuck's sake", as they're one of my fave bands. Busy Bees and The Pit have announced themselves as the best on there for me, followed by Mean Spirits and Bloody Mary. The rest, hmmm well, give it a few more weeks and see if they grow any more. Skin Graph could be good if it was balls out all the way, rather than breaking right down in the middle foe what seems like ages. Make Believe is just plain bad. Some of the songwriting sounds a little forced, as if Chris said "right, I haven't used this beat on a song yet" and then they just built the songs round them. There's a distinct lack of Nikki as well, which is a shame, as her bass was signature on the first two albums. Bit disappointed, but I'm still desperate to see them live.

The sparser guitars could definitely be forgiven if there was more of Nikki filling the space. I also adored her vocals on the old stuff, either on backing like in most of Swoon or choruses on stuff like Kissing Families and Little Lover's So Polite. I basically just love Nikki.

I think the songs will work live though, can't wait for a tour.

I streamed it about 3 times yesterday so don't know track titles other than the single but I'd agree, it's a 50/50 effort but they are probably rebelling against the smoothness of the last record...

Don't know if it's common knowledge, but on June 12th and 14th (in Grand Rapids MI and Council Bluffs IA), it looks like Joy Form are supporting SP.
